About The Arts
Jeet Kune Do
Jeet Kune Do is the system of martial arts developed by Bruce
Lee and is considered by many to be one of the most advanced martial arts
systems ever created.
Using the Chinese Gung Fu style of wing chun as a foundation, Bruce
Lee researched and incorporated ideas and principles from a wide array of
fighting and combat systems from around the world such as Western boxing,
fencing, French savate, and Thai kickboxing.

Not wanting to be trapped in the quagmire of "style", Bruce Lee
developed his art with a focus on kinesiology and physics. As a result, his
system and the tools and techniques that comprise it have achieved a level
of superiority in efficiency and effectiveness over the
"traditional" martial arts styles by emphasizing speed, power,
body mechanics, timing, and tool development.
Pentjak Silat
Pentjak Silat is a fighting system that has its origins in the
Indonesian Archipelago and can also be found in Malaysia and the southern
Philippines.

The words pentjak silat roughly translate as "artful
combat". Pentjak, or the "art", refers to the
dance-like movements that are the trademark of the style, while silat
refers to its combative application. Doing pentjak without silat is
meaningless in application; silat without pentjak is fighting without
strategy or tactics. These two elements combined have created a martial art
like no other.
Buka Jalan Pentjak Silat is the system of silat developed by Sifu Cass Magda
of the Magda Institute of Martial Arts in Reseda, CA. It draws from more
than 20 styles of silat he has studied and incorporates sophisticated hand
movements, footwork, joint manipulations, throws, and groundwork.
Kali/Escrima/Arnis
This martial art native to the Philippines is as diverse as the
islands themselves. Also known as escrima, arnis, estoque,
kaliradman, pagkalikali, and many others, the Filipino
martial arts are most often identified with the use of weaponry, in
particular the rattan stick.
Unlike most martial arts, students learn to use the weapons first and then
later learn the empty-hand applications. This reverse methodology promotes
comfort and fluidity when wielding a weapon; the principles of the Filipino
martial arts allow an exponent to fight with nearly any object at hand.

Characterized by intricate and innovative maneuvers, this complex and
comprehensive martial art continues to gain popularity in the United States
as well as all over the world for its effectiveness and unique approach to
combat and self-defense.
Muay Thai
Called the science of the eight limbs (hands,
elbows, feet, knees) Muay Thai is considered to be one of the most
devastating martial arts in the world today.
Practiced originally as military training and now as a brutal sport, it is
the national sport of Thailand and is as popular there as baseball is in
America.
The training methods are so rigorous and so demanding that many professional
football teams in the NFL have incorporated some of their training methods
into their regular training program.
